Are Cardboard Cat Scratchers Good for Cats?

Are Cardboard Cat Scratchers Good for Cats?

Cats scratch to stretch and to shed claw sheaths. A pad, a lounge, a house, and a post match different behaviors.

Match the angle to the cat

A flat pad suits a cat that scratches low. A lounge adds a place to lie down. A house adds a hide. A post or a wall pad suits a stretch. The scratcher range is split that way so a buyer can pick the behavior first.

Cardboard cat houses and seasonal prints sit beside that range. A holiday house is still a hide with a scratch face. A modular set can combine a tunnel and a lounge so one carton covers more than one behavior. Sample the behavior you intend to show on the shelf photo before you lock the dieline.

What makes one worth stocking

  • It stays put. A tipping post does not get used.
  • The board is dry and the edges are finished.
  • The carton survives the channel you actually ship.

Place the product where the cat already scratches. A perfect pad in the wrong room loses to the sofa. The board is recyclable corrugated, bonded with corn starch glue. Official samples are usually ready in 5–7 days after the structure and artwork are agreed. If the shape is not in the catalog, start from OEM or ODM.

How to brief the behavior

Write the behavior in the first email: low scratch, stretch, hide, lounge, or play. A three-panel pad can lie flat, stand as a screen, or fold into a nook. A house is a hide. A post is a stretch. A toy is an add-on beside the scratcher, not a substitute for it. Seasonal print can sit on any of those forms once the structure is agreed.

Stock the angle the cat already uses. A line of only flat pads misses the cat that wants to stretch. A line of only tall posts misses the cat that wants to tear a horizontal face. Many programs carry a pad and a lounge, then add a house or a holiday graphic for the season. Packing still has to survive the channel. A piece that tips, or a carton that arrives soft, will not be used no matter how clear the behavior story is.

Questions

Should a line include only pads?

Pads are the volume item. Lounges and houses raise the ticket because they add rest and a hide. Many programs carry both.

Do cardboard scratchers replace a sisal post?

For some cats, yes. For a cat that wants a long vertical stretch, keep a post in the line. The comparison is in cardboard versus sisal.
